"The table set: a designation for displaying etiquette while eating at ritual gatherings. In this detailed arrangement of objects, a curatorial practice is at play. In these domestic spaces, colonial traces are imbued and contested with a syncretic understanding of objects."
- Sherwin Ovid
Goldfinch is pleased to present the first solo exhibition of work by Chicago artist Sherwin Ovid.
Ovid deploys tactics of collage, bricolage, excess and ornamentation in paintings that explore cultural transmission, class aspiration, and migratory aesthetics, particularly as manifested in the domestic sphere of home decor. He received his BFA from the School Art Institute of Chicago in 2007 and a Master's of Fine Art in 2014 from the University of Illinois at Chicago where he received a Lincoln Fellowship in 2013. Recent group exhibitions include "Known Unknowns: Painting in Chicago" at the Cleve Carney Art Gallery at the College of DuPage, the Chicago Artist's Coalition, Unit 2 Art Collective in Chicago, University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, Chicago Pop-Up Loop Alliance Gallery and Swimming Pool Project Space in Chicago.
