Iris Bernblum is a cross disciplinary, conceptually based artist with a deep interest in psychoanalysis. She explores ideas around human nature, power and vulnerability, focusing primarily on the way we frame our sense of self in regard to gender, sexuality, pleasure and desire. She has a strong investment in performative based work, although more as a voyeur than actor. The work begins with writing: dialogues, poetry, intimate stories from her life. It then branches out into photography, video, painting, installation, and sculpture, often using her text as a frame. Bernblum always invites you to play a role.
